The History of Goshiki: Initially appearing at a Tokyo show in 1918, this variety resulted from crossing an aka bekko with an asagi or an aka sanshoku. Modern breeders use an asagi/taisho sanke cross. This produces a Goshiki with two colours of blue, light and dark, as in the asagi, and the red, white and black of the taisho sanke.
Goshiki Identification: The Japanese word 'go' means five. Thus goshiki means five colours, made up from red, white, black, light blue and dark blue.
Koi Definitions: Asagi - Koi showing a bluish back with reticulated scale pattern. Some red on cheeks, flanks and pectoral fins. Sanke - White koi with red and black markings Gin-Rin - koi with reflective silver scales |
