The History of Asagi: The Asagi is a very old colour variety of koi, almost 175 years old. It first appeared among the offspring of the black magoi. The asagi magoi (which is its proper name), has a blue back with a reticulated or net-like appearance. Each scale should be uniform with a darker centre and lighter edges. However, there are many variations of this separation, even with strains where the separation is indistinct and not contrasting. In all cases, the lighter the colour blue or grey, the better.
Asagi Identification: Aside from the blue reticulated back which is characteristic, an intense red or hi must predominate the cheeks, sides and pectoral fins.
